The 72nd annual BMI Country Awards were held on Tuesday night (November 19) at BMI headquarters in Nashville. Morgan Wallen’s smash hit “Last Night” was named Song of the Year. Songwriter of the Year honors were split between Chase McGill and Zach Bryan, with each songwriter co-writing six of BMI’s most-performed songs over the last 12 months. Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp. was recognized as Publisher of the Year, as the organization published 34 of BMI’s 50 most-performed songs of the year. The night’s BMI Icon Award went to Alabama’s Randy Owen, with Riley Green, Luke Bryan, and Blake Shelton all paying musical tribute to the country music legend. The event started with a performance of “With a Little Help From My Friends” by Ella Langley, Lukas Nelson, and Aaron Raitere in a salute to the country music community’s charitable contributions throughout the year.
